Think Italian sparkling wine, and off dry or sweeter styles probably spring to mind. Led by Lombardy’s Franciacorta, there are some truly excellent regional alternatives to discover. Like Franciacorta, this fabulous fizz from Piedmont is made in the Champenoise method, undergoing two fermentations in the bottle. Floral notes are complemented by spice, herbs and white fruit on the nose, while the creamy mouthfeel gives way to a crisp, dry finish.
